The Campotto Oasis

campotto

The naturalistic Campotto Oasis is found between Bologna and Ravenna, to be more precise close to the city of Medicina. The first time you go it’s almost disturbing… it feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere (and it’s true in a certain way given that it extends for over 1,000 hectares of land!). From the white pebbly streets you can’t see anything but the horizon ( as you can see in the above photo), and all around there are fields or ponds in which various species of birds take refuge.

If you are lovers of bird watching then this is the place for you. It’s possible to admire diverse species of birds that find refreshment in the enormous “tubs” of water. It’s truly a relaxing place, amongst the various chirps, without any type of human noise. Some personal advice though: if you decide to go there it would be best to take a bicycle! In fact, we tried to follow a path on foot, but the distances are truly enormous and you risk getting tired even before seeing a small part of the entire park! For more information, refer to the official site of the park Delta del Po.

The funniest prohibition ever seen!

cartello buffo
We ran into this silly sign (put there by the owner of the house in his own yard) during one of our trips in Bavaria! It surely deserves the prize for the silliest/ funniest and at the same time most original sign that I have ever seen!
Going back to talk about the place in question, we went to go around Mittenwald (of which I may speak to you later on), a beautiful German country near the Austrian border. We went up a tortuous path that leads to a large, marvelous lake, the Lautersee, surrounded by mountains, with diverse green fields all around, as you can see in the photo below

Clearly you can also reach the lake by bus… but don’t you want to do a little healthy physical activity in a place where it’s still possible to breath pure air??

Monteacuto Ragazza

Monteacuto Ragazza is a timeless place. It’s an antique village that really isolated, hidden on the top of a mountain near Grizzana Morandi. We went in the summer, but we don’t dare imagine what it’s like in the winter! In fact, the only paved street that reaches it wasn’t even inviting in the good season, imagine it with ice or snow…! Aside from these considerations the place is very beautiful. In the surrounding area there are splendid paths to travel along on foot, in fact, we are near the Corno alle Scale Park.

The place also has certain archeological interests in as much as they have discovered Etruscan remains in the area.

One last interesting thing about the name Monteacuto “Ragazza”. Academic scholars trace the term “ragazza” (girl) from agazza, that in the antique language of the Germanic people that dominated Italy in the past means “gazza” (magpie).
