canyon colorato

Another image taken from my trip to the Red Sea is the Colored Canyon. The tour guide brought to our attention how the striped parts of the surrounding rocks almost seemed like primordial paintings, made by Mother Nature herself. In fact, really looking at it, they really seem like drawings!

“Sassi di Roccamalatina” regional park

Sassi di Roccamalatina

This park is located in the province of Modena, near Guiglia to be more precise. It’s a strange pathway, in the middle of antique valleys in which enormous brownstone rocks stick out, on the top of one of these (Sasso della Croce, 567 m) it’s also possible to go on foot (but be careful if you suffer from vertigo!). The park is really enormous and it’s not hard to get lost… luckily there are a lot of directions scattered along the path. There are a lot of things to see, from a historical and scenic viewpoint.
Whether you decide to go on foot or by mountain bike (there are different paths) it’s really a beautiful place, close to two large cities like Modena and Bologna. For more historical information or for more details, you can refer to the official site for the Emilia-Romagna region by clicking here.

a huge pretzel

pretzel gigante

What you see in the above photo is really a pretzel, made gigantic! we noticed it right away, while walking down the street that leads to the Neuschwainstein castle, one of the most beautiful (if not the most beautiful) of the Ludwig castles. In fact, all along the street there were various stores full of different kinds of souvenirs and various amenities, but what attracted our attention the most was a type of café/ restaurant that displayed this “succulent” item in a delightful way…!

We were left a bit disillusioned when we realized that the pretzel was salted and not sweet (because of our ignorance we didn’t know what these pretzels were like until now). It certainly made an impression though! The French fries that we ate had a less striking appearance but were much tastier.
