It’s really unmistakable… I really like the architectural style of Bavarian homes. Going around those small towns makes you feel like time stood still, in a sort of Lord of the Rings set in Germany…!
What’s great is that it isn’t hard to find houses like this… it’s possible to find at least a few of these houses in every town, no matter how small, in practically all of Bavaria. My favorites are the ones with paintings representing various themes (fairy tales, Christianity, etc) on the walls.

The enormous mass that you see above forms part of the “colored canyon” path that we took in the Red Sea. I don’t know if this is the real name or not, it seemed to be one of the canyons typical of the far west, like those that you can find in America.
During the journey we passed through large areas in which you could admire the walls that were streaked with a thousand shades of red-orange-brown-yellow, in narrow passages like those represented in the photo above. There was a huge stone, I don’t know if it was placed there on purpose or if it’s the result of an earthquake or some other natural cataclysm, which was blocking the path!
The only way of passing it is by going under or by jumping over it (but that’s quite risky). However, in order to go under it you can’t be too fat… because you really pass by the skin of your teeth! Which is why I asked myself what would’ve happened if there had been an overweight person in our group…

One of my favorite spots, among the many things to see in Parco del Corno alle Scale (near the thermal city of Porretta Terme) is the “Dardagna Waterfalls”.
I like them so much because in order to reach them you have to take a short hike in the middle of the woods, but nothing particularly tiring. The course of the Dardagna river measures about 25 km. and ends in the Rocchetta resort when it joins the Scoltenna torrent that gives origin to the Panaro river.
A good starting point for the excursion to the waterfalls is the Sanctuary of Madonna dell’Acero, that dates back to the XVI century, it’s found along the street that leads to Corno alle Scale from Vidiciatico, near the Pian d’Ivo resort.
It’s based on a local tale, from the XIV century, about a miraculous apparition of the Madonna to two death-mute Shepard boys that sought refuge under a maple tree during a thunderstorm. It is said that the young boys were miraculously healed from the vision and they received the power to speak.
