The right time period to go to the Red Sea

admin March 16th, 2007

I have to admit that I didn’t enjoy myself during my first trip to the Red Sea, and I later found out that it was because I went during the wrong time period.

Dealing with an extremely hot place, the best time to go is from March to the end of April or at the latest in the beginning of May. We went there in the beginning of June: now I don’t know if it was also because of that fact that that year was particularly bad luck (you all remember the incredible heat wave that enveloped all of Europe in 2003). I remember that vacation as being a nightmare!

The air was boiling hot and dry, we spent practically all of our time there locked in the little house in the holiday village, but nevertheless it’s a nice place…

I was also disappointed with the sea. Let’s be absolutely clear, there were colorful fish, but seeing as how I don’t know how to swim well, I was a little afraid. In fact there was a long footbridge and then you plunged into the sea: the problem is that you could practically see the coral reef sink into the darkness of the sea, giving a sensation worthy of a horror film (the fear of the unknown!). I also tried to get a life suit (with which I wouldn’t have had any problems floating), but despite all that once I was immersed in the water I just was too afraid!

You also need to be careful about where you make reservations, inform yourself beforehand of what the beach is like… unless you don’t mind swimming in the beautiful pools in the holiday village (look at the photo below to get a better idea)
