A very cool itinerary for the lovers of nature and walking is the “Acquacheta Waterfalls” one. They’re located nearby “Forlì-Cesena” in the tusco-emilian mountains called “Appennini”. We went there in may 2003, and I’m sure all of you remember how hot was that year! However the course is made for the most part from shadowed paths and a thick green vegetation (as you can admire in the photos below, depicting the beginning of the way).

a stoned path lead us into the beginning of the journey…

on the left there’s already the river, even if in the picture it’s hidden
The route is not hard at all, goes up slightly but you can do it (starting from the town of S.Benedetto in Alpe) in about 2 hours.
The cool thing about the route is that the path borders the river for most of it, and so you have the impression of walking side by side with the river itself.

The forest is made of beeches, oaks and chestnuts, typical of the “Foreste Casentinesi”. The green of their foliage is simply wonderful and adds a sort of magic to the place.

A wooden bridge that you’ll encounter during your way.

A stone house we met during the route, I don’t remember anymore if it was just an abandoned house, or a shelter of some kind.

Monte Adone is located in the beginning of “Appennino Bolognese” (mountains south of Bologna). It is very close to the main town of Bologna, just a few km, and it’s still a relatively quiet place. We started to climb upon it from a place called “Badolo”.

As you can see the path is narrow and steep, and in some points you have a ravine just on your side: so it is recommended only to people who don’t have vertigo!

The sight is wonderful as you can see. A pity that day there was a bit of mist, but in any case you can see how high we are!

Pictured above instead a uninvited guest we med along the road… I even managed to take a portrait of this curious lizard!

At last we were on top – were we could admire those curious rock shapes. I don’t know their origins, but still they look cool!

In this other pictures you can see them better. Really weird! seems like someone made them on purpose

When we’re on vacation in the mountains (whether in Austria or Germany) our typical day adjusted to fit their rhythm: which is to get up early in the morning at 7 and to go to bed early as well (usually around 10:30).
The thing that really upsets our Italian habits the most is the eating schedule. If for lunch the time varies from noon to one thirty (two o’clock is already late), the evening is when you risk having the door slammed in your face if you’re thinking about going to eat at a restaurant at 9pm!
In fact, dinner begins at 5:30-6 (I’m not joking) and finishes at 8-8:30 at the latest. But if you arrive at a restaurant at 8:30 it’s likely that they will tell you that the kitchen is already closed!
That clearly goes for somewhat small towns, in case you find yourself Vienna, Salzburg, or Monaco you can find something open easier, but if you’re used to eating at 10pm you’ll have trouble even here…!
